The Impossible Chair

And How It Became Possible.

KAOS

KAOS

They told us it couldn’t be done.
A high chair made entirely from recycled household plastic — safe, strong, and beautiful? Impossible.

But at KAOS, we believe design can be both functional and meaningful.
When someone says “it can’t be done”, that’s usually where we start.
A Mission Fueled by Purpose

In 2022, KAOS received a grant from Norwegian Retailers Environment Fund, Norway’s leading environmental fund, to take on what many called an impossible challenge:
to create the world’s most sustainable high chair — made from recycled post-consumer plastic waste.

The fund called it “The Impossible Chair.”

The goal was never just to build another chair.
It was to prove that the industry can change — that children’s products, designed for the next generation, can also protect their future.

From Waste to Wonder

Plastic waste is one of our time’s biggest challenges.
Every year, tons of household plastic end up being burned or buried instead of reused.
We wanted to show that it can become something better — something lasting.

Together with AION by Aker BioMarine, we developed a traceable, high-quality material made from recycled household plastic.
The result?
A durable, safe, and fully circular product that can be returned, remade, and recycled up to nine times.
