KAOS nominated for Innovation Award at Kind & Jugend 2022

The Klapp Babyseat and the Klapp Tray are nominated to win “World of sustainability Kids” at the Kind & Jugend Innovation Award.

Norwegian based KAOS is nominated to receive an award during Innovation Award at Kind & Jugend 2022. The newly launched Klapp Tray, and Klapp Babyseat, pawnable and made from recycled marine waste, are nominated in the category “World of Sustainable kids”.

KAOS was recently first in the world to launch pawnable babyequipment made from recycled marine waste. The Klapp Tray, and Klapp Babyseat, are made from 50% fishnet that derives from post-industrial waste. The material is not only recycled, it is also recyclable up to 9 times. “That means the lifespan of the Klapp accessories will be extremely long, and the environmental footprint will keep getting lower every time it is recycled”, says co-founder of KAOS, Mette Hansen. KAOS encourages customers who purchase the accessories, to return them against a deposit when they don’t need the accessories anymore. “A Babyseat is only relevant for approximately 6 months. “We truly want our customers to return them back so we can put them up for second-hand sale or recycle them into new Babyseats if needed” says Hansen.

Fishnet is extremely robust and solid and can float around for decades, causing a painful death to tons of marine life. It feels good to help clean the oceans and make good use of old fishnet.

Another great advantage of using recycled fishnet in production is that it can help reduce ghost fishing. Ghost fishing occurs when old fishnet floats around in the sea, whilst continuing to catch prey that is never collected. Fishnet is extremely robust and solid and can float around for decades, causing a painful death to tons of marine life. “It feels good to help clean the oceans and make good use of old fishnet”, says Hansen.

The two founders of KAOS are super proud to receive such a nomination. “To be recognized for being innovative AND pushing forward sustainability makes it worth all the hard work we put down”, says co-founder of KAOS, Gineline Kalleberg. The Klapp Babyseat and Klapp Tray are the first offsprings of a collaboration between KAOS and AION by AkerBiomarine. The founders admit it hasn’t been an easy project, but adds to the sigh: “When like-minded people and companies like KAOS and AION put their heads together, quitting is not an option. It took us two years to figure out the right material mix and nail the circular process 100%”, says Kalleberg.

The winner of the award will be announced during the opening ceremony at Kind & Jugend, on 8. September.

KAOS will be exposed at The Kind & Jugend Fair, 8-10. September in Cologne, Hall 11.2, Booth G020 (on The Norwegian Platform, hosted by the Norwegian-German Chamber of Commerce).
